In November 2017 the Italian hammond & drums band "IL DUO" recorded "Funko Italiano" after having played only three shows with the addition of guitarist and composer Will Bernard.

Giulio and Gioele were already both fans of Mr. Bernard whom had just recorded with John Medeski's new band "Mad Skillet" and was touring Europe. They invited him over to Schio a small town near Vicenza (Italy) to join them for a tour and the recording of IL DUO's first album.

The three spent two days inside Buzz Recording Studios, a state of the art studio located strangely enough right behind the venue where Gioele and Will played togheter for the very first time back in 2012.

The sessions where very spontaneous and consisted of quick rehearsals of the tunes to then record one or two takes maximum for each of the tracks. In the breaks between takes they would charge up by eating Asiago cheese, sopressa veneta and drinking northern Italian red wine. The day after the recording sessions they continued the tour for ten more days.

The title "Funko Italiano" is Will's brilliant play on words with the classic tune "Mambo Italiano". All the credit goes to him.
